Terms of service

The short version

BritStack apps are information and document-organising tools, not regulated legal, tax, or care-funding advice. You buy a single-user licence. You can't resell, redistribute, or republish the source code. We offer a 14-day refund. Our liability is capped at the price you paid.

1. Who we are

“BritStack,” “we,” and “us” refer to the UK sole-trader brand operating britstack.co.uk and the BritStack family of digital products. You can reach us at contact@britstack.co.uk.

2. What you're buying

A one-time licence to use a single BritStack app on devices you control. Each app is delivered as an HTML file plus a welcome page, distributed in a ZIP. Lifetime updates are included for that app.

BritStack apps are information and document tools only. They are NOT:

  • Regulated legal advice
  • Regulated financial or tax advice
  • Regulated NHS or social-care advice
  • A substitute for a qualified solicitor, accountant, or care navigator

For complex or contested cases, please consult a qualified professional. Each app links to the relevant free helplines (Coram, ACE, Beacon, Age UK, Citizens Advice, NRLA, etc.) — please use them.

3. Licence

You may:

  • Install and use each purchased app on your own devices
  • Use the app for personal or business cases that you control
  • Keep your own backups of the data you create with it

You may not:

  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the app or any part of it
  • Share the file with other landlords / parents / families / clients beyond your own household or business
  • Upload the source to GitHub, file-share sites, or other marketplaces
  • Rebrand, repackage, or use the source in derivative paid products
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or remove copyright notices

Unauthorised distribution is a breach of copyright under the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and may result in takedown action and civil claims.

4. Refunds

14-day money back, no questions asked. Email contact@britstack.co.uk with your order reference within 14 days of purchase and we refund in full to your original payment method.

Under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, your statutory right to cancel digital content begins at purchase and ends 14 days later, or when you start downloading the file (whichever is sooner) — your purchase confirms you accept this. Our 14-day no-questions policy is more generous than the statutory minimum.

Refunds are not available for:

  • Purchases more than 14 days old
  • Bulk-resale claims (single-user licence; see clause 3)
  • Fraud or chargeback abuse — these go to dispute

5. Geography

BritStack apps are designed for England (and where stated, Wales). Scotland and Northern Ireland operate under different legal frameworks (different Tenancies Act, different appeal tribunals, different CHC equivalent, different school admissions Code). If you buy an app and it's not applicable to your jurisdiction, we'll refund within 14 days — just email us.

6. Liability

You remain solely responsible for what you submit using outputs from BritStack apps — your tax return, appeal letter, Section 13 notice, evidence pack, and so on. The apps are tools to help you organise your case. We do not predict tribunal, panel, HMRC, ICB, or court outcomes.

Our total liability to you, however arising, is limited to the amount you paid for the product. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special losses (lost case outcomes, missed deadlines, fines from third parties, lost earnings, distress).

Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

7. Updates

We push updates as UK legislation and guidance change (e.g. Renters' Rights Act phases, Admissions Code revisions, tax-band changes, MTD ITSA rollout). Updates are free for life to anyone who has purchased that app. We'll email you when a notable update is published.

8. Termination

We can terminate your licence if you breach these terms (notably clause 3 on redistribution). Termination doesn't remove copies you already have, but it ends your right to use them and ends your right to receive future updates.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes go to the courts of England and Wales unless mandatory consumer-protection law provides otherwise.

10. Contact
